How Sound Travels 2nd &3rd Class

How sound travels

In 2nd & 3rd class we went back in time and we investigated how sound travels through concrete objects. We investigated how sound travel through our classroom table. In pairs, one child tapped on the table while their partner puts their head on the table. They noticed a huge difference from them sitting up straight to when their ear was close to the table. The sound was louder and they also felt the vibration from the tap on the table. This is because sound travels through waves and it convert it into a vibration.

In groups the children made a string telephone using two cans and a piece of string of different lengths. We made holes in the tin can and the children threaded through the string. The children stretched out as far as they could and they passed secret messages trough the tin cans.We found that sound travels well through the air but even better through solids as the cup allowed us to hear sounds that would be difficult to hear from far away.
The children really had fun practicing this experiment inside and outside the classroom.
