This was the most exciting experiment and definitely the one the children had the most fun testing. To begin the children watched a variety of rocket launch videos to see what way rockets launched into space. This experiment involved a lot of discussion and team work as each group had to decide what would be the most effective way to launch their rocket. They had a choice of bottle styles, a choice of water from hot to tepid to warm etc and also had to decide how many alka seltzer tablets would be the most effective to launch their rocket. This experiment was definitely most suitable to outside as the force from shaking the bottle with the alka seltzer and water mixture made it rise in the air and push the lid off the bottle.
We found the most effective rocket was the one made with warm water, a smaller plastic bottle and 3-4 alka seltzer tablets. Varying the water and the number of tablets definitely made an impact on the rocket launch.
